Sickness and Scriptures
Hi Family and Friends!! What a week!!!
First off, MOM HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I sure am blessed to have such a wonderful mother! Thanks for caring for me for the past 2 decades! If any of y'all see my dear mother, wish her a happy day!
Now. My lovely companion Sister Fox is being transferred tomorrow. I will miss her! She will do great in her new area! My new companion will be Sister Degraw. My new sister training leader companion will be Hermana Alta. My dream has finally come true to have a spanish speaking companion! Well, sort of. Haha. I'm counting it.
As for the week. Sister Fox was super sick for a few days so we were camped up in our apartment for a day or so. While she rested, I had the privilege of studying my scriptures more. It was amazing. I said a prayer in which I asked some questions. I then dug into the scriptures. I found all the answers in the scriptures and was overcome with peace. It was a great opportunity for me to come closer to my Heavenly Father on a personal and spiritual level.
I wanted to share a cool experience.
This week we went to teach Jenny. We had met her while tracting and shared the Plan of Salvation with her on her porch. Jenny's first language is Tagolog and so we weren't sure if she was understanding a lot. However, we trusted Heavenly Father and the Spirit. So, we prayed and set up a return appointment..... Well, we went back on Friday. (I'm not going to lie, I didn't think that Jenny was too interested. Well, oh ye of little faith sister stone. ) When we got there she opened her door and let us in. She said that she had studied the pamphlet of the Plan of Salvation and had some questions. We had a great lesson. We prayed at the beginning that she would understand us and we answered all of her questions. I know that the spirit was there to touch Jenny's heart and help her understand. We gave her a Restoration pamphlet in Tagalog and an English Book of Mormon. (We ordered one in Tagolog for her to read. We're just waiting to receive it.) I know that the Spirit has the power to touch peoples hearts. I know it helped Jenny and us communicate. Man, I sure love my Heavenly Father. He's so good!
I also had the opportunity to play my violin at the rehab center in town. (I play there every month or so. ) I played hymns last time and this time decided to play from the Children's Songbook. (Well, the Spirit gave me the idea for that!) I played a few of my favorite songs and a few of the people asked me about what the songs were that I was playing and who wrote them. They said they felt at peace when I played those songs. (Talking about the primary songs.) Sister Fox said she saw the man in the back cry. (Which that particular man usually is not the type to cry if you know what I'm saying.) I felt the Spirit so strong too. I know that the spirit witnessed to their hearts of the gospel truths that were in the songs.
We also had President Dennis of the Mission Presidency come down to Fayetteville. We were able to go contact some people with him. We were able to give a Book of Mormon to someone with him. I always love learning from the mission presidency and other missionaries.
I also wanted to share a scripture with y'all.
It's Doctrine and Covenants 109: 7-8.
"7. And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom, seek learning even by study and also by faith;
8. Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing, and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God;"
This section is the dedicatory prayer for the Kirtland Temple. However, when I read it, I was thinking about the new Come Follow Me curriculum. I know it is meant to help make our homes a temple and unify and strengthen our families.
My challenge for y'all is to "Seek ye out of the best books.. and prepare every needful thing." This new revelation is meant for us right now. It is from Heavenly Father. Two hour church is not meant to shorten our time of worship but to increase the amount of worship we do in the home and daily. We are not "Sunday" Christians. I know as you follow the prophet you will be able to withstand the whirlwinds of the devil in these last days. You and your family will become stronger, closer and happier.
I love y'all!
Love,
Sister Stone
